FOGSI Recognised Colposcopy Training Course for Obstetricians & Gynaecologists

Dr. Bharati Abhyankar has been conducting specialised Colposcopy Training Camps for obstetricians and gynaecologists for the past 7–8 years — most recently in February 2026 — with the goal of developing their practical skills in early cervical cancer detection using colposcopy.

About the Camp

Colposcopy is a vital diagnostic procedure used to detect abnormal changes in cervical cells before they progress to cancer. This training camp gave participating doctors direct, hands-on experience with the technique under expert guidance.

What Was Covered

• Colposcopy technique fundamentals — instrument use, visual examination and pattern recognition
• VIA/VILI screening — simple screening methods using Acetic Acid and Lugol's Iodine
• Classification of abnormal findings — diagnosis using the IFCPC classification system
• Biopsy guidance — practical demonstration of when and where to take a biopsy
• Patient counselling — how to discuss pre-cancerous findings sensitively with patients

Why This Matters

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women in India. With timely and regular screening, it can be prevented before it develops. Over the past 7–8 years of training more doctors in colposcopy, Dr. Bharati Abhyankar has helped expand access to this life-saving procedure for women across the region.
